Kenston at Akron SVSM
— What: Division III, Region 7 regional quarterfinal
— When: 7 p.m., Friday (Webmaster’s note – kickoff is 7:30 p.m.)
— Where: Green Street Stadium
— Records: Kenston 7-3, Akron SVSM 10-0
— What to watch: With all due respect to the other teams in Division III, Region 7, there are certainly easier games to play in an opener than St. Vincent-St. Mary.
Eighth-seeded Kenston had won four games in a row before falling to Aurora, 63-28, last Friday in a CVC Chagrin championship game. Meanwhile, the Irish have won 16 games in a row, dating to last year, when they won the Division III state championship.
Kenston was hurt by four interceptions against Aurora. But Parker Gdula is very capable of regrouping.
Running back Pedro Velascio is the Bombers’ top running threat.
The Irish are loaded with talent. Ohio State recruits Dante Booker (linebacker) and Paris Campbell (receiver) lead a fast and athletic team that has dreams of a Division III state championship.
Kenston likes the fast-paced, high-tempo offense. That might scare some teams, but probably not the Irish.
They key for Kenston is to not turn the ball over, something that would be impossible to overcome against SVSM.
