After claiming Chagrin Valley Conference MVP recognition following the winter sports season, Kenston sophomore Sammi Nero continued on with her club gymnastics team and has had quite a few remarkable accomplishments.
Since finishing up with her high school program, Nero went on to compete in the state competition with her club team and clinched a championship title on the uneven bars with a score of 9.550. Scores on her other events put her in fourth place in the all-around competition in the state.
With her success at the state level, Nero qualified for regionals in Lansing, Mich. The Region 5 competition includes gymnasts from Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio.
Nero sprained her ankle and did not think she would be able to compete at regionals, but, with a lot of ice and therapy, she decided to give it a go, even if a little sore.
The top-six gymnasts out of all five states advanced to the next level and Nero finished fifth AA, which has qualified her for Level 9 Eastern Nationals. She will be part of the Region 5 National Team and compete in Tampa, Fla. on May 4th.
