Monday night the Cavs lost to the Trail Blazers (110-123) leaving them with a (14-47) record. The Cavs are currently ranked as the second worst team in the Eastern Conference with only one win ahead of the New York Nicks. Many fans are asking themselves “What went wrong?” Concerned Cavs fan Dorian Talley said, “We have a lot of young players and need to get the teams chemistry right.” With Lebron out of the picture new players have to step up to the leadership role that he once filled. Players such as Kevin Love who is currently averaging 17.8 ppg this season, or rookie Colin Sexton averaging an even 15 ppg. The missing leader is not the only problem however, ever since Lebron left the team just appears to be lacking confidence all together. For example J.R. Smith is scoring nearly half as many points this season then his career average. As of now all we can hope for is good picks in the future draft or even some lucky trades, but it is certain that the Cavs won’t be the same Easter powerhouse for many years to come.

The Cavaliers played their 11th game against the OKC Thunder and lost 86-95. With the new coach Larry Drew just signing for the rest of the season, the Cavs hoped that would point them in the right direction. But so far the in the young season, things are not looking good. On offense so far this season, Jordan Clarkson is leading the Cavs with 15.2 points per game, George Hill is leading with 3.0 assists per game, and George Hill is also leading with a field goal percentage of 55.6%. Kevin Love would be the team leader in these categories, but he is expected to miss 4-6 weeks due to a toe surgery. The Cavs are currently 1-10.

For the second year in a row, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Indiana Pacers play each other in the playoffs, but as of now, it is much different than last year. This comes after they were dominated by the Indiana Pacers, blowing out the Cavaliers 98-80 in Game 1. The result of this game has put a lot of pressure on the Cavaliers as they desperately need a win after their rocky first game that put many fans in a state of panic. “Regardless of their seed, I have faith in them.” Says Nick Dombrowski. Hopefully, they will turn their game around and get a big win on Wednesday with home court advantage and turn the series around.

The Boston Celtics were defeated by the Cavaliers 135-102! Lebron James lead the team in scoring with 35 points and now has the NBA’s all-time playoff scoring record! Lebron said, “I think I fell in love with the game because of Mike, just because of what he was able to accomplish. When you’re watching Michael Jordan it’s almost like a god. So I didn’t think I could be Mike.” The Cavs scored 50 points in the paint, but were out-rebounded by the Celtics 52-44. Lebron will be playing in his seventh straight NBA Finals and Cleveland set an NBA record by winning their 13th consecutive series closeout opportunity. “This team is a crazy team. They just stayed resilient all year, got to the playoffs, and we really stepped our game up,” Coach Tyronn Lue stated. “Now we can start focusing on Golden State to get ready. As of tonight, I’ll get started.” Deron Williams was a big help off the bench adding 14 points, which was his series best. The Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers will be facing off in the NBA Finals for a record setting third straight season! Game 1 of the NBA Finals will take place on June 1st in Golden State. The series will be a great matchup and the two teams will definitely play hard. The two teams will have a week to rest in advance, but the fans sadly have to wait until this high anticipated matchup takes place.

Lebron bounced back in game 4 scored 34 points and was embarrassing Boston’s defense by scoring the majority of his points in the paint. The Cavs turned the ball over 15 times, while Boston only had a total of 12 turnovers. Cleveland shot the ball well from the field in the second half making a resounding 71% of their shots. Coach Tyronn Lue stated, “He saw Bron went out and he wanted to put the team on his shoulders and he did that.” Kyrie added on saying, “In the back of my mind, I thought, they can’t tie up the series.” “We can’t go back to Boston tied 2-2. We needed everything tonight.” Kyrie rolled his ankle late in the third quarter, but he tightened up his shoes and stayed in the game when his team needed him the most. Cleveland improved to 35-5 against Eastern teams in the playoffs since 2015. Jae Crowder stated after the game, “I feel like we’re humble enough to know we haven’t played well at home.” “We want to give our home crowd a better outing than we put out the past two games.” The Cavs will play game 5 in Boston on Thursday and will be attempting to finish the series with a win. Hopefully the Cavaliers will be victorious at the end of Game 5!

So we got back together.” “Everybody had to step up their game tonight especially with one of our brothers down,” Smart said. “Our love and support goes out to Isaiah. We wish he could be here but we understand. We just kept fighting. Everybody did their part.” Lebron had one of the worst games of his playoff career, finishing with 11 points and six turnovers. He said, “I didn’t have it, you let a team like that grab momentum you almost knew a shot like that was going in.” “I’m kind of glad it happened the way it did,” James said. “We have to play a lot better. “I feel some adversity is part of the postseason. If it’s going to happen, let it happen now. Let’s regroup and get back to playing desperate basketball, which they did tonight. We’ve got to be a lot better for sure.” The Cavaliers are now 10-1 in the playoffs losing their first game since game 4 of last year’s finals. Game 4 will be tomorrow night and the Cavs need to forget about game 3 and get the win.

There’s no complacency for us now. But we like where we’re headed,” James said. Isaiah Thomas strained right hip and Celtics coach Brad Stevens said the star point guard had a nagging injury that he aggravated a week ago during the second-round series against Washington. Lebron is the first player with at least 30 points in eight straight playoff games since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1970. “It’s hard to take,” Al Horford said. “We’ve worked really hard and put ourselves in this position to be here. It’s been tough for our group. Tonight was real rough, there’s no other way to put it. It’s definitely a low point for our group.” The Cavs will play game 3 and 4 in Cleveland, so hopefully we will sweep the Celtics at home. Game 3 will be on Sunday, May 21st.

We felt like we did a good job doing that.” “It wasn’t just me. Everybody was moving the ball, passing the ball well.” Cleveland has now won a franchise record 12 straight playoff games and look to keep the streak going after game 2 in Boston. Kyrie Irving had his playoff career low for the year only scoring 11 points, so hopefully he will be more of a factor in game 2.

The Raptors lost to the Cavaliers yesterday 109-102. Lebron James lead the team in scoring once again with 35 points and Kyrie lead the team in assist with a total of 9! PJ Tucker had a double-double for the Raptors by scoring 14 points and had 12 rebounds. The Toronto Raptors scored 36 points in the paint, but there scoring was not easy because the Cavaliers had 9 total steals and 5 blocks! Lebron commented, “It’s rewarding when you can advance,” “It’s not just given to you, you have to go out and earn it. Once again I’m part of a team that’s been able to advance to the Eastern Conference finals. It’s going to be my ninth time in 14 years. I’ll take those numbers.” The Cavs broke records on Sunday becoming the first team to win eight straight playoff games the year following a title, and the first team to win eight straight in consecutive postseasons. Cleveland has swept its opponent all nine times it has taken a 3-0 series lead. Toronto posted back-to-back 50-win seasons for the first time in franchise history and reached the playoffs for the fourth straight year. It’s on us to let this sink in and understand we gotta come back better, individual and team-wise,” DeRozan said. Coach Casey also said, “It feels bad, it was ugly, but it shouldn’t diminish the excellent regular season we had.” The Cavaliers will be playing the winner of the Celtics and Wizards series in the Eastern Conference Finals. That series is currently tied 2-2 and “won’t end until Friday night at the earliest, and could run until Monday night.” So the Cavaliers will now be able to rest for the next couple of days and should be an advantage for the team to play better in the conference finals!

Kyle Lowry sprained his left ankle in the third quarter of Game 2 and did not practice Thursday. Coach Casey of the Raptors said, “He was limping badly, he just couldn’t go. He wanted to. The doctors and trainers and medical people were just telling him he shouldn’t try to go because he was in so much pain.” Game 4 will be played tomorrow in Toronto. Sunday’s game is about pride,” Casey said. “You don’t want to get swept, especially in your home building.” The Cavaliers look to complete the sweep on Sunday, but it will definitely not be an easy task, but hopefully the Cavs will get the win!

Jonas Valanciunas lead the Raptors with 23 points and had 5 rebounds. The Cavs shot very well from the three point line shooting 54% and making 18 out of 33 total attempts! The Cavs need to improve their defense though because Toronto scored 50 points in the paint. Lebron passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for second on the playoff career scoring list and stated after the game, “I’m feeling pretty good.” “Just blessed I’m able to make a few plays tonight to help us win another game.” The Raptor’s all-star guard Demar Derozan didn’t make his first field goal until the first minute of the fourth quarter, so the Cav’s defensive game plan to double-team and trap him has worked well! Kyle Lowry suffered an ankle injury, but commented,”I’m not going to complain about it. Get treatment and get ready to play in Game 3.” Game 3 will be on Friday night and will be played at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre. The Cavaliers will be attempting to go up 3-0 in the series and will try to add on to their current win streak!

Kyle Lowry lead the raptors in scoring with 20 points and PJ Tucker helped out by scoring 13 points off the bench, but it still was not enough to beat the Cavs. Cleveland shot 46% from the field and passed the ball well with a total of 26 assist. Irvng contributed to the assist total the most and set a playoff career high with 10 assist, while only having 12 the entire series against Indiana. Lebron commented after the game, “That was the mystery coming into the game, how we would come out?” “Obviously you prepare, you want to come out and play well, but you never know after an eight-day layoff. But the energy was phenomenal.” The Cavaliers are now 16-1 at home against Eastern teams in the playoffs since 2015. Toronto’s Coach Dwane Casey stated after the game, “We’ve got to make adjustments as far as how we want to guard the paint and then get out to the 3. Offensively, get cleaner looks.” Game 2 will be played on Wednesday and the Cavaliers are going to attempt to add on to their series lead and go up 2-0 in the series. Game 2 seems like it will be a very entertaining game and Toronto will make their adjustments, but hopefully the Cavs will be victorious once again!

The Pacers shot 47% from the field, while the Cavaliers only shot 41% from the field. The Cavs outrebounded Indiana 58-53, and had 8 total blocks! James said, “They were giving it all they had,” “Obviously, a loss would have ended their season. We just had to weather the storm once again.” Since Lebron won his 21st consecutive first-round game, he now has the longest streak under the NBA’s current playoff format. James also broke a tie with Tim Duncan for the most sweeps in a career and now has 10 total sweeps! The Cavaliers will play the winner of the Toronto Raptors and the Milwaukee Bucks. The Raptors and Bucks are tied 2-2 in their series currently. Jonah Schumann says, “Cavaliers will go all the way this year and win a back to back championship”. This sweep also gives the Cavs some extra rest before they play in the second round of the playoffs. The Raptors and Bucks will play game five tonight, Monday April 24 at 7pm. This series has been very exciting to watch and seems like it will be a 7 game series! Hopefully the series will continue to be entertaining and close scoring games!
April 21, 2017
The Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Pacers last night 119-114. The Cavs made the greatest second-half comeback in playoff history, overcoming a 25 point deficit and really showing how strong their perseverance is! Lebron James played a total of 45 minutes and was a key factor in the Cavaliers’ success. He scored 41 points, had 12 assist, and a total of 13 rebounds! Paul George lead the Pacers in scoring once again with 36 points and lead Indiana in rebounding with 15. Indiana outrebounded the Cavs 65-54, but Cleveland shot 47% from the three point line and made 21 of their attempted 44! “We knew we had to take (some) punches, but it was a flurry, more than we expected,” James said. “At halftime, I was just looking at the guys and telling them let’s get a couple stops.” The Cavs have won 11 straight first-round games since James returned to his hometown team. Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving both sat the entire fourth quarter, which makes this comeback even more miraculous! Coach Tyronn Lue stated, “We just never quit,” “We knew the importance of this game. To go up 3-0, makes things a lot more difficult for those guys.” The Pacers have only been down 3-0 in one other seven-game series since it joined the NBA. Indiana has never endured a four-game sweep in the NBA, but hopefully the Cavaliers will be the first team to do so. On Sunday the Cavs will be playing the Pacers in Indiana and will be attempting to get sweep them. The Cavs will need to play better on the defensive side of the ball though, so they don’t have to go through the stress of coming back from such a large deficit.
April 18, 2017
The Indiana Pacers lost to the Cavs last night with a final score of 117-111. Kevin, Lebron, and Kyrie played a huge role in the Cavaliers’ success with a combined 89 points! Paul George played well for the Pacers once again and helped out by scoring 32 points. The Cavaliers played terrific on defense with a total of 8 blocked shots and 30 defensive rebounds! The team also, shot the ball well from the free throw line making 20 out of 23 attempts and 87%. James jumped ahead of Magic Johnson for third place in career playoff steals and jumped over Robert Parish for eighth in rebounds! “We’re right there of what we know we can become,” James said. “We’ll figure it out. I’d much rather have an 18-point lead than not have a lead at all. We’re right there on turning the switch on what we really can become.” Jeff Teague injured his right wrist in the second half and coach Nate McMillan said the starting guard will undergo X-rays. Coach McMillan said, “I thought we lost our composure and got frantic out there, we lost our poise and wasn’t calm during that third quarter. And that was big.” JR Smith didn’t play in the second half because of a left hamstring injury, but Iman Shumpert replaced him and played 20 minutes. “Shump was unbelievable,” coach Tyronn Lue said. “He came in and made it tough on Paul George and made a couple shots for us also. We needed that spark.” Game 3 will be played on Thursday and Cleveland is 12-0 when starting 2-0 in the postseason. The statistics say that the Cavs should add on another win to the series on April 20th, but they will be playing in Indiana the next two games, so the Pacers will now have home court advantage, which can make a huge impact for Indiana!
April 16, 2017
The Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Indiana Pacers 109-108 in game 1 of the playoffs! Paul George lead the Pacers in scoring with 29 points and shot 6 for 8 from the three point line. Lebron James lead the Cavs in scoring and assist with a total of 13 assist and 32 points! Indiana out-rebounded Cleveland 50-43, but the Cavs took advantage of the Pacers 13 turnovers by scoring 19 points. CJ Miles could have won it for Indiana, but a player whom Cleveland’s players and coaches call a “Cavs killer,” missed a 14-foot jumper just before the buzzer. “I talked to CJ about it,” George said. “In situations like that, I gotta get the last shot. CJ took it upon himself. I’m confident with all of my guys taking shots. That’s not the issue. In that situation, I need the ball.” James said the Cavs’ plan on the final play was not to let George beat them. “We wanted to get the ball out of his hands, make somebody else try to beat us and live with the results,” he said. “I’m happy we go the victory,” he said. “I’m happy how emotional we was. I’m happy with the energy and the effort. They made some big shots and some big plays, so I’m excited about that.” The Cavaliers look to carry this momentum into game 2 of the playoffs, which will be on Monday. Hopefully, the Cavs will get another win to add on to their lead in the series!
