AFTERPROM FASHION SHOW! It’s hard to believe that it’s time to start thinking spring thoughts, like Prom, but it’s true, it’s just around the corner. “If you are a junior or senior and are interested in being a part of the Fashion Show on Friday, April 20th and 7 p.m., KHS Auditorium, sign-ups are Tuesday 3/20, Wednesday 3/21, and Thursday 3/22 in the cafeteria during lunch.
The theme this year is Cinco de Mayo so make sure you gather your groups! The JUNIORS are to wear casual attire and the SENIORS are to wear formal attire. Don’t miss out on participating in this fun event with your classmates. The Fashion Show is put on by PTO as a fundraiser to make Afterprom the best it can be. The money raised is used to provide food, make decorations, and fund entertainment, like a hypnotist as an example! Afterprom is important because it provides a safe, secure place for students to be, since Prom night is one of the most dangerous nights of the year” says Gabrielle Powell, junior.
PROM: The 2018 Prom will be held from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. May 5, 2018 at Embassy Suites in Independence and is open to all juniors and seniors and their guests. TUTORS NEEDED: Calling all Biology Buffs! The Kenston Academy is in desperate need of Biology tutors Tuesday and Thursday after school until 3:20. If you are available one of both of the days please see Mrs. Thompson in room C143A or stop by the library after school. Any time spent tutoring counts towards your community service hours for graduation.
TUESDAY: Kenston Foundation Scholarships: Just a reminder to all seniors — the Kenston Foundation Scholarship deadline is Tuesday, March 20. (It says Friday, March 20 on the application.) Please note this deadline. When you bring your application to Guidance, you will need to make an interview appointment with Mrs. Hanzak.

COMMENCEMENT SPEECHES: It’s hard to believe that there is only 3 months until the class of 2018 will graduate! Do you like seeing the Forest through the trees? Ohio Forestry Assoication holds the 2018 Camp Canopy June 10-15 at FFA Camp Muskingum. This weeklong residential camp explores forest ecology, tree identification, wildlife and forestry management and forest products and is open to all students who have completed eighth-grade through 2018 graduating seniors.
The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District offers a scholarship to fund this camp. Applications are in Guidance and due by mail or in person by 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2018. For more information about Camp Canopy, visit ohioforest.org.

Two scholarships are open to students who attend Kent State University and plan to major in physics and enroll in the honors college. Seniors – the Bainbridge Township Police Department scholarship is here!
Two $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to Kenston seniors with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above who plan to study in a related field of public service (Law, Medicine, Education, Sociology, Psychology, Military). Must include a transcript and typed essay of 500 words on one of four topics (see application). Applications are in Guidance and must be returned to Guidance no later than Friday, March 16, 2018.
The KENSTON HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC BOOSTERS SCHOLARSHIP is available in Guidance. Requires a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA, minimum ACT of 25 or SAT (critical reading and math) of 1200, must be active in a KHS academic club or society (Envirothon, Janus, Math/Academic Challenge, National Honor Society, Science Olympiad, Speech and Debate). Include a sealed copy of your official KHS transcript. Must be returned to Guidance by Friday, March 16, 2018.
The BAINBRIDGE WOMEN’S CLUB SCHOLARSHIP is in Guidance. Open to all graduating seniors, both male and female. Requires two letters of recommendation from junior or senior teachers written specifically for this application; copy of transcript with ACT/SAT scores; and resume including school activities, community and volunteer activities, work experience, achievements and awards. Plus a detailed essay addressing one of three topics (listed on the application). Applications are in Guidance. Must be returned to the Guidance office or the Bainbridge Library by Monday, March 19, 2018. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
BAINBRIDGE CIVIC CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS. Community Service Awards – the Bainbridge Civic Club, Don Takacs,
Bainbridge Area Food for Friends and a joint Bainbridge Civic Club/Bainbridge Women’s Club Community Ox Roast awards are based on community service, and the John Batchelor Scholarship is for a student pursuing a career in education. KENSTON COMMUNITY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP is here. Two $750 scholarships to seniors who have been a participant in KCE events/sports for at least two years; volunteer at least once between ninth and 12th grades; with a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA. Two new scholarships have been added to the Kenston Foundation Scholarship. Stop in Guidance to pick up a new application. Robert Lee Go Green Scholarship – $1,000. Students must have shown an active interest in the environment and volunteered throughout high school. Kenston Education Association Scholarship – $1,000. Minimum GPA of 3.2, plan to major in education and have education-based leadership experience (example tutoring). Remember, deadline is Friday, March 20.
The MAAK Scholarship is available in Guidance. Deadline is March 23.
The Chagrin Valley Rotary Academic and Vocational Scholarship application is now available in Guidance. Must be mailed to be received by March 30, 2018. Firm deadline. Applications received after this date will not be considered. Scholarships will be around $2,000 each (depending on the eligible applicant pool). Awards are based on need, community service, academic achievement and extracurricular activities. Requires letter of recommendation and 3-to 4-paragraph essay on your life challenges or accomplishments so far. Make sure to check what type of application you are submitting: Career Tech (vocational) or Academic. Applications may be accessed online. The Masonic Lodge Scholarship is available in Guidance. Two $1,500 scholarships available for academics, extracurricular activities, community service and brief essay about your interests and school you plan to attend. Must return completed application to Guidance by Wednesday, April 4, 2018
LAKE GEAUGA USBC SCHOLARSHIP. One $1,000 scholarship will be given based on: must have earned 3 varsity letters, main 3.3 cumulative GPA, letter of rec from one coach and one teacher/administrator, provide financial aid info. Applicants will be judged on sports participation, academic potential and achievement, letters of rec, essay, extra consideration given to a varsity or USBC Youth Bowler but not mandatory. Applications are in Guidance. Must be mailed to be received by April 6, 2018.
Seniors – UH Geauga Medical Center $1,000 scholarship has arrived in guidance for anyone enrolling in a health care career who needs financial assistance. Application deadline is April 11.
