TODAY: ATHLETIC SEASON PASS:
Get your Athletic Season Pass TODAY, before the big game this Friday night! The link is located on the KHS Home page, as well as, the Athletic page. You can also stop in the Main Office to pick up a printed form. Season passes provide admittance to all HOME sports contests for the entire 2018-19 school year (with the exception of the following: Kenston Invitational Events, Western Reserve Conference Tournaments and Ohio High School Athletic Association sponsored events). Upon receipt of a completed application with the required payment, your name will be added to the season pass-holder list. New this year, there will be no more laminated photo passes, but instead, names will be on a list at the Front Gate. It’s a great deal! General Admission tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students (except football). (Seniors citizens and children under 5yrs of age are free.)

TODAY–KENSTON ACCADEMY:
Looking for a place to get some work done before heading home at the end of the school day? Kenston Academy is back! Come to the KHS Library after school Monday through Thursday from 2:20 pm to 3:20 pm. Use a computer. Print a paper. Get some tutoring help or volunteer to help other students. See Mrs. Dixon in Room C143A if you would like to tutor.

THURSDAY: SCHOOL PICTURES/ I.D. MAKE-UP DAY is Thursday, August 23rd
10:00 am – 1:00 pm in the Band Room
Not to be confused with picture re-takes. This is for students who missed getting their pictures taken on Aug 7th, 8th or 9th. Picture Re-Take Day is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 27th; 10am – 1pm. It’s YOUR responsibility to get yourself there WHEN it’s a good time for YOU. You will NOT receive a pass.

THURSDAY: OPEN HOUSE for Parents
On Thursday, August 23rd at 7 pm your parents are encouraged to come to Open House. They will be able to walk through your class schedule and meet all of your teachers and realize how much work you do and why you’re so tired when you get home.

EXCITING NEWS FOR THIS FRIDAY!:
Get ready Bombers! This Friday, Aug 24th will be our first ALL-SCHOOL PEP ASSEMBLY! We will be on a special schedule during the day on Friday to accommodate this exciting all-school event at the end of 4th Block. WEAR RED, WHITE & BLUE, bring your school spirit, Class pride and all the excitement you can muster! You will be dismissed after the assembly, so be sure to go to your locker beforehand.

FRIDAY NIGHT—Kickoff Classic
AND….., the party continues…..Friday NIGHT, Aug 24th, is the Kickoff Classic and the FIRST TAILGATE PARTY OF THE YEAR starting at 5pm. We will be recognizing our FIRST RESPONDERS, so wear your RED, WHITE & BLUE to show your support at our first football game of the year when we take on Streetsboro. Go Bombers!

Students Participating in the GEAUGA COUNTY FAIR:
Last year, we had at least 30 students participate in the Fair. If you are planning on participating in the Geauga County Fair Aug 30 – Sept 3rd you will need to complete a PLANNED ABSENCE FORM and return it to the Attendance Office by Tuesday, Aug 28th.

REMINDER TO ALL STUDENTS –Planned Absence:
If you know you will miss school for ANY REASON, you must fill out a Planned Absence Form. Please plan ahead since, you will need each of your teachers and a parent to sign the form before you turn it in. Forms should be turned in at least 2 days before your absence! Stop in the Attendance Office if you have questions.

STUDENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
If any student would like to assist the VOLLEYBALL TEAM, please see Mrs. Everts, Rm B124. Help is needed with line judging for ninth grade home matches, students to rotate volleyballs during a match, and score keepers for freshmen matches. Community service hours will be given.

SENIORS, REQUIRED VACCINE:
All seniors are required to have proof of the meningococcal vaccine on file in the clinic PRIOR TO the beginning of the 2018-19 school year. By state law, students will not be allowed to stay in school longer than 14 school days unless proof has been received on all required immunizations. Note: students who had the first dose prior to age 16 must have the second dose before entering 12th grade. Documentation can be a signed note from the physician’s office or an immunization summary printout. Proof must include the month, day, and year of the dose. Deadline: Wednesday, Sept. 5th.

GUIDANCE NEWS:

COLLEGES VISIT YOU @ KENSTON:
College representatives from state and private schools will visit KHS during the day to meet with interested students. Students MUST register through Naviance and will receive a pass the day of the visit. If you need assistance registering through Naviance, see Guidance for an instruction sheet.
The first college visit will be Washington University in St. Louis on Tuesday, Aug. 28 at 10:30 a.m. Most visits will be in the Guidance conference room, other locations will be announced.
This is a great opportunity to meet with the college admissions representative and learn more about a college you might be interested in. Check the updated list of visits on the bulletin board outside Guidance and also on Google Docs and our website.

SENIORS Class of 2019!
Forms Due: Transcript Release Form, Diploma Name Verification, SAT Registration (Forms are located in student’s Welcome Back Packets picked up by each student on Packet Pick-up Days—8/7/18 & 8/9/18). The student’s Census Verification should be completed and updated by parents by August 31st. Parents should have received an email from Kenston e-communications on August 6th entitled “Complete your Annual Census Verification TODAY”.

FINANCIAL AID NIGHT:
Thursday, Sept 20th 7pm KHS Auditorium. Program will cover the financial aid process as it applies to college admission. There will also be an overview of the FASFA and scholarship information. The FASFA date to being filing is October 1st. Don’t miss this very informative presentation.

SCHOLARSHIPS:

Protect Geauga Parks Bob McCullough Scholarship is for those who plan to study the natural or environmental sciences in college. $1,000 – essay describing how your projects or activities demonstrate the importance of conservation to you. Deadline 5:00 PM Sunday, Sept. 30. Fliers are available in Guidance.

Cleveland Browns Marion Motley Scholarship for those who plan to major in areas that would lead to a career in education or working for a professional sports organization. Must have 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher, 18 ACT or 940 math and verbal SAT taken by Sept. 30, 2018. Financial need based on Parent AGI. Fliers are available in Guidance.

PSAT / NMSQT TEST: Expectations

TEST DATE: Wednesday, October 10, 2018 – 7:45 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. – KHS (See registration deadline below!)

Grade 9 & 10:
All freshmen will take the PSAT 8/9 test and all sophomores will take the PSAT/NMSQT on Oct. 10th at KHS. These are mandatory tests at no cost and students do not need to register. Students will be notified of their classroom assignments prior to the test.

Grade 11:
Juniors who are interested in taking the PSAT/NMSQT will need to register. Tests are pre-ordered, so registration deadlines are mandatory. The NMSQT is a national test and is only given ONCE A YEAR—Don’t miss the registration!
Juniors may choose one of the following on October 10th:
1. Take the PSAT/ NMSQT test at KHS. Register deadline is Friday, Sept 7th. Cost: $16.00 (Checks to “KBOE”)
2. Go on a scheduled College Visit. A Planned Absence Form must be completed by 10/8/18 and turned into the

3. Career shadow. A Planned Absence Form must be completed by 10/8/18 and turned into the Attendance Office.

Grade 12:

DRESS CODE REMINDER:
A friendly reminder from your School Handbook: With warmer weather, please be mindful of the STUDENT DRESS CODE- All shorts and skirts should be mid-thigh in length and all shirts should have at least a 2 INCH WIDE STRAP- no spaghetti straps or tank tops are permitted.

SENIOR PORTRAITS:
All seniors should plan to take advantage of the FREE session for Senior Picture for the Yearbook on Thursday, Sept. 27th (10–1:00 PM, Band Room). Venditti will be here to take a complimentary, professional picture—sorry, you cannot purchase this picture, it is for the yearbook only. Senior portrait specifications for other Photographers: Size—no less than 300 dpi. Pose—only traditional full color portrait, head and shoulders only. Background—must be on the spectrum from cobalt to navy blue (no light blue). No hats, props, hands or inappropriate clothing. Submit your photograph electronically by email attachment to: justin.fodor@kenstonapps.org or on a CD. Under no circumstances will a senior portrait be scanned from a print.
