For countless years, local physician Dr. Alan Gurd donated his time, talents and resources to the Kenston school district.

Bomber Nation will say thank you on Oct. 18.

That’s the day Kenston will officially dedicate the new, state-of-the-art Gurd Family Fieldhouse, adjacent to the home of the undefeated and top-ranked Division III football team in the state of Ohio – Bomber Stadium.

The 8-0 Bombers will use the facility for the first time on Oct. 19 when they host Chardon in a key Western Reserve Conference game.

“Doc Gurd, when I played here back in the day, he was always on the sideline. He was everywhere for us,” said Tom Porter of Blaster Corp., which is a part of the project. “The reason for the fieldhouse and naming it after him is because he has been such a stalwart financially and professionally. He’s done so much for Kenston for so long, it’s a great honor to name the house after him.”

The Gurd Family Fieldhouse is just a stone’s throw from Bomber Stadium, that an old bus garage building used to call home. But it’s been renovated and added on to to make it a larger, more comprehensive facility.
