Did you know that you CANNOT even TRY-OUT for your sport unless these 3 things are completed?
1. YOU have to complete Final Forms (“Pre-Season Documents”) online
2. Your PARENTS have to “sign off” electronically on Final Forms
3. You must have a valid physical on file. (Copies of the OHSAA Physical packets are in the Main Office, but most doctor offices also carry them). There are still 40 athletes who have not turned in a current physical in order to TRY-OUT. You should have received an email from the Athletic Department if your Physical is not up to date! If you can’t find the “Final Forms” link, it is located on the left-hand column under “Athletics” on the KHS homepage. Look for “Pre-season Documents”. Don’t wait until the last minute!

Girls’ basketball tryouts will begin Friday, Oct 26th from 2:30 to 5 pm. You must be registered on Final Forms and have a valid physical. There are only a couple more days left to buy tickets for the Bomber Bowl! You will not want to miss it! Also there will be an exciting tug of war match between the senior and junior boys during halftime! Tell your friends and family! Admission tickets are $4 and proceeds will go to the National Honor Society. You won’t want to miss this annual event on Tuesday, October 30th. The girls get a chance to show off their flag football skills under the Stadium lights. This will be a very competitive and a fun-filled match between the Juniors & Senior Ladies. (Sign-ups were on Tuesday 10/9 and Thursday 10/11. Jersey cost $35. All returning seniors will use their jersey from last year and do not need to purchase one this year.)

Good luck to Boys and Girls Cross-Country Teams tomorrow as BOTH teams qualified to run at Regionals! The boys team has been ranked in the state Top 20 all season long, and looks to return to the state championship. The girls team has also peaked with a top 20 state ranking for the first time in program history this year. The athletes will run at Boardman High School tomorrow, Saturday, October 27.
SATURDAY: Volunteers Needed:
Volunteers are needed at the Pond for their “Gliding Stars of Northeast Ohio Program” as well as their “Halloween Spooktacular” on October 27th. On and off ice volunteers are needed to help introduce children with disabilities the joy of ice skating. The Halloween Spooktacular is Saturday, October 27th from 6:15p.m. till 8:00 p.m. The Gliding Stars Program is every Sunday from February 24 to May 19. This is a great opportunity to meet with the college admissions representative and learn more about a college you might be interested in. Check the updated list of visits on the bulletin board outside Guidance and also on Google Docs and our website. College representatives from state and private schools will visit KHS during the day to meet with interested students. AUBURN CAREER CENTER: Info Day @ KHS:
Auburn Career Center will be visiting KHS on Wednesday, November 7 for an informational meeting to introduce the vocational programs and other student opportunities. This meeting for sophomore students will take place during homeroom.
Sophomores may visit Auburn Career Center in the morning on Wednesday, November 28, from 8:45-11a.m., for an in-depth look at the vocational programs available to our students. Permission slips are required for this field trip and available in Guidance. If you have any questions, contact Ray Kimpton at 543-9821, ext. 2120.
All current Auburn students will be excused from classes on November 28. They are expected to participate in one of three options: Career Shadowing, College Visit or represent Auburn as a student ambassador or classroom host for the Sophomore Visitation Day. Students will earn community service hours for helping on this day.

Lakeland will host a Fall Campus Visit Day and Academic Program Fair on Friday November 2 from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m! Meet with program representatives, learn about Holden University Center and its partner schools, how to pay for college, admissions process, Q&A panel and a campus tour. LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Geauga United Way
GEAUGA YOUTH FUND DISTRIBUTION COMMITTEE
United Way Services of Geauga County is seeking high school students to join its Youth Fund Distribution Committee with the goal of engaging and empowering students. Students help solve community problems affecting youth and collaborate with other young leaders. This committee provides an opportunity to instill volunteerism in future adult leaders and identifies critical issues important to students through hands-on experiences. Students will learn the needs of youth in the community, the agencies addressing those issues, generate fundraising to help support agencies and programs, and research, interview and make funding decisions to distribute money to nonprofit partners that serve youth in Geauga County.

Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage Stop the Hate $100,000 essay contest for Northeast Ohio sixth- through 12th-graders. Essays limited to 500 words or less on an event or circumstance that caused you to act to create positive change in your world. What caused you to act and how did you decide to take action? VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AND SERVICE HOURS:
Did you know that one way to stand out with your high school RESUME is by how much you volunteer and WHERE you volunteer? It’s best to spread your volunteer hours out over a couple DIFFERENT areas and not just one place to show you are well-rounded. When you graduate from Kenston, students with 60 HOURS OR MORE of community service will wear a blue cord around their neck–it’s a nice honor to have and easy to do since Kenston offers so many opportunities. If you’re a freshman, you only need to log at least 15 HOURS PER YEAR and by the time you are a senior, you’ll have the 60 hours that you need.

ATHLETIC SEASON PASS:
The link is located on the KHS Home page, as well as, the Athletic page. You can also stop in the Main Office to pick up a printed form. Season passes provide admittance to all HOME sports contests for the entire 2018-19 school year (with the exception of the following: Kenston Invitational Events, Western Reserve Conference Tournaments and Ohio High School Athletic Association sponsored events). Upon receipt of a completed application with the required payment, your name will be added to the season pass-holder list. New this year, there will be no more laminated photo passes, but instead, names will be on a list at the Front Gate. It’s a great deal! General Admission tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students (except football). (Seniors citizens and children under 5yrs of age are free.)

The third Annual Kenston Bomber Bash PTO fundraiser is quickly approaching for Kenston High School students! It will be an amazing night of school spirit, charitable giving, and so much fun! Please consider donating to this important event even if your child is not able to attend. We hope to make a huge difference supporting Kenston High School but more importantly in the lives of children who are suffering life-threatening illnesses. A Kid Again is a Northern Ohio organization that fosters hope, happiness and healing for families raising kids with life-threatening illnesses. The 2017-18 Yearbooks have arrived! All students who ordered a yearbook from last year and did NOT receive their book on Wednesday, Sept 19th during homeroom can plan on getting their book on Monday, Sept 24th during homeroom-you must remain in your assigned homeroom if you wish to receive your yearbook. Extra copies are available on a first come, first served basis. If you are interested in purchasing the 2018-19 Yearbook, see the link on the right column of the homepage. Remember, yearbooks take the summer to be completed and published and are usually ready for distribution in the Fall of the following year. Books for graduated seniors will be sent to their home. Math Mondays take place every Monday during homeroom. On Math Mondays we usually discuss interesting math topics or watch videos on how to do math puzzles such as the “four fours” puzzle. You can also sign up for the Kenston Math Club Google Classroom account where you can find out about events, volunteering opportunities, and chances to tutor. We have already started having meetings so if you want to join or have any questions, see Mr. Koltas in room C138.
*MOCK TRIAL TEAM: Info meeting Mon. Oct. 22, 7:00pm, Room A112. Mock trial is an academic competition against other high schools where students portray an attorney or witness and participate in a simulated trial. Students argue both sides of the case in real courtrooms across the state and are scored by panels of lawyers and judges. The state finals are held in the Ohio Statehouse. Students learn first-hand about the law, court procedures and the judicial system. The coaches are all attorneys. Practices are every Monday night at 7pm in A112. *PACK CLUB: PACK is a group of students interested in current events and politics. We have Democrats, Republicans and Independents who share their points of view in a safe environment. *RECYCLING-ENVIROTHON: If you like recycling and saving the planet from pollutants, then join Envirothon! In Envirothon, we recycle all the classroom’s bins of plastics, papers, glass, metals, and cardboard. Envirothon is a great way to get community service hours for your high school career. Every Monday and Wednesday during homeroom, these students play a vital part of keeping Kenston environmentally friendly! Students meet in Mrs. Moone’s room, B130, during homeroom days and spread out over the entire high school building to empty plastic and paper bins for collections helping Kenston stay green. Stop by if you are interested in joining the Envirothon club.
*SCIENCE OLYMPIAD: Do you like to build things? Figure out how things work? Do you like thinking outside of the box? Science Olympiad might just be for you. Join Coach Wilk and former team members in Room B131. Come when you can. Meetings are held in B-131 on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2:30 to 3:30 and Tuesday and Thursday from 6:45 to 8:45.

*SPEECH AND DEBATE TEAM: Come check-out a practice on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 pm in A112. Speech and debate is an academic competition against other high schools that focuses on public speaking, debating, writing and acting skills. Similar to a swim or track team, students compete in one or two of fourteen events occurring simultaneously in separate classrooms. The team competes in more than a dozen Saturday tournaments from late-October through mid-February with the goal of qualifying for States, which is held in early March. Students are not required to attend every tournament.
