Why We Hate Mondays

Monday! Probably the most hated day of the week. But does everyone feel the same way toward Monday? And why do we have this burning opinion toward the first day of the week? To find out, I interviewed various people to conclude once and for all what makes this day so controversial.

A Kenston Student:

Q: “Do you like Monday?”

A: -“NOOOO”

Q: “Why do you not like it?”

A: -”It means the wonderful weekend is over and “back to work.””

Q: “What is the worst part of Monday?”

A: -”The tired feeling.”

Q: “Do you think if we had a three day weekend and the first day of the week was Tuesday, you would still hate Monday?”

A: -”Of course not! And I don’t think I’d hate Tuesday because a three day weekend would be great!”

Q: “Do you think it’s your own fault that you don’t like Monday?”

A: -”No, doesn’t everyone?”

Q: “Are Mondays in the summer better than Mondays during the school year?”

A: -”Definitely. But if I had to work Monday-Friday in the summer, they would always be bad. There are no weekends in the summer when you are off everyday.”

Q: “What advice would you give to people on Monday?”

A: -“Have something really fun planned for Monday evening to look forward to, like going out to dinner or a movie”

“Thanks for the answers!”

Julia Warholic:

Q: “Do you like Monday?”

A:“No.”

Q: “Why do you not like it?”

A:“It means the end of the weekend, and the tiredness that I feel during the day.”

Q: “What is the worst part of Monday?”

A:“Starting the school/work week.”

Q: “Do you think if we had a three day weekend and the first day of the week was Tuesday, you would still hate Monday?”

A:“I will not hate Mondays but I would dislike Tuesday.”

Q: “Do you think it’s your own fault that you don’t like Monday?”

A:“No.”

Q: “Are Mondays in the summer better than Mondays during the school year?”

A:“Yes.”

Q: “What advice would you give to people on Monday?”

A:“Get as much sleep as possible Sunday night in order to be rested on Monday, prepared for the school/work week.”

Conclusively, most of the participants don’t like Mondays, and the main reason for their dislike was because the school/work week starts on that day. Many of the participants also noted their sleepiness on Monday and the little motivation they carried throughout the day. However, many said that if Tuesday was the start of the week, they would hate Tuesday. Therefore, it’s not actually Monday which people despise, it’s the start of the school/work week and the end of the relaxing weekend. The explanation for the sleepiness? Many sleep in during the weekend, which confuses their body’s “clock,” and as a result the early start to the day on Monday comes as a shock to the body.
