The 2019 edition of Kenston’s literary and art magazine, JANUS, was submitted to the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) at the end of last year for judging. The REALM (Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines) program gathers literary magazines from various high schools in the state of Ohio, and a panel of specialized judges reviews submissions to grant awards. Kenston’s JANUS recieved an “excellent ” rating, the second highest score possible, placing it behind only two other magazines in Ohio. Unfortunately, JANUS did not earn a “superior” rating, so it will not move onto the national leg of the REALM competition, yet the book brings great esteem to Kenston’s program and will hopefully go on to earn the highest possible ranking in the coming years.
