The Kenston football team has picked up where it left off.
Tyler Mintz scored three times, twice on passes from senior quarterback Jon Tomcufcik, and the Bombers romped over host Black River, 35-0, in the season-opener on Aug. 30 in Sullivan.
Kenston, the defending Division III state champion, held a 35-0 lead at halftime and cruised in the second half, which was played with a running clock because of the lopsided score.
“We’re happy with our first-half performance,” said Kenston coach Jeff Grubich. “We did make one mistake – we turned it over one time – and that was disappointing because we pride ourselves in winning the turnover battle. But it was a good start.”
Tomcufcik completed 11 of 15 passes for 168 yards and three touchdowns. Aside from his two strikes to Mintz, Tomcufcik also threw a scoring pass to Jay Middleton and scored on 20-yard touchdown run.
