Boardman’s Spartan Invitational affords Northeast Ohio’s cross country teams a chance to gauge themselves on the regional course at the season’s midpoint. If the results Sept. 14 are any indication, Kenston’s boys team is on pace to secure a fourth straight state berth.
The Bombers placed second to Louisville in the team standings with 141 points, 17 behind the race’s team champion. Senior David Rosinski continued his strong start to the season with a ninth-place result in 16 minutes, 35.1 seconds.
Junior Dennis Princic stepped up to finish 12th in 16 minutes, 39.5 seconds — The News-Herald coverage area’s eighth-best time of the season. Jack Turk (17:03.4) was 35th, Garrett McConnell (17:05.7) finished 38th and Max Reardon (17:12.6) took 47th to round out Kenston’s scoring five. Kenston’s girls team also led area schools in the D-I girls race. The Bombers placed fifth with 187 points, as North Allegheny — a 2018 state champion in Pennsylvania — won the team title with 124 points.
Freshman CeCe Paglia led the pack with a 20th-place result in 20 minutes, 3.4 seconds. Sophomore Jenny Kapcio (20:23.5) was 27th, junior Ellie Pleune (20:26) placed 33rd, sophomore Jocelyn Van Skyhock (20:32.4) was 38th and freshman Paige Masson (21:10.3) was 69th to round out Kenston’s scoring five.
Each of the Bombers’ team results stand as the boys and girls teams’ highest placements at the Boardman Spartan Invitational.
