Today marks the beginning of a very special week at Kenston High School. This week is “Start With Hello” week. Schools across the US will be participating in this event with a goal of breaking social barriers and helping kids find new friends. As part of the Sandy Hook Promise, kids can use this week as an opportunity to talk to new people and make some new friends, as well as combating social isolation that is seen in schools across the country. On Tuesday, students are encouraged to wear green in support of the event. Senior Ben McGinnis said, “I think it’s a great opportunity to meet some new people. It can really be a great ice breaker.” Along with meeting new people, Start With Hello week also focuses on positivity and fun by playing music in the halls in between periods. Senior Mathew Fantauzzo said, “I love getting to hear music in the halls. It’s fun and upbeat, and really puts some pep in my step.” For the rest of the week, PEAK will be sharing other culture’s ways of saying hello. Students are encouraged to participate by spreading positivity, talking to new people, and making new friends.
