The Chagrin Falls girls golf team left no doubt in repeating a district berth during the Division I sectional tournament on Tuesday at Tamer Win’s golf course in Cortland.
After securing the final spot out of the sectional by 7 strokes a year ago, the Lady Tiger linksters shed 20 strokes off their team card to finish runners-up with 368 strokes from their low four shooters.
The Chagrin girls were bested only by defending champion Kent Roosevelt, 345 strokes, in the 15-team field, while Canfield finished third with 370 strokes and Warren Howland took fourth with 397 strokes.
New to the Lady Tigers’ postseason lineup, sophomore Cristina Joseph led her team with an 89-stroke round from the No. 5 position in the order to finish ninth overall among 78 linksters in the field.
Also representing Chagrin Falls, senior Emma Bartlett fired a 91, senior Hanne Wilson shot a 93, senior Maggie Mills carded a 95 and junior Chloe Steger turned in a 101. Bartlett, Wilson and Mills are postseason veterans, with Wilson specifically improving her round by 7 strokes from a year ago.
Meanwhile, Kenston junior Layla Gilbert advanced as an individual. The Lady Bomber fired an 86-stroke round to finish runner-up in the sectional, bested only by Roosevelt senior Emma Picicco’s medalist round of 85 strokes.
Gilbert bettered her score by 22 strokes from last year’s sectional tournament on the same course.
Up next, the Chagrin Falls girls and Kenston’s Gilbert will compete in the Division I Northeast District tournament at 8 a.m. Oct. 8 at the Ellsworth Meadows par-71 golf course in Hudson.
