Katie Cardaman

Katie Cardaman

  • Freshman | Sophomore | Junior | Senior
  • Katie has lettered in swimming since her freshman year, and was a member of the state qualifying 200 Medley Relay her junior year. She hopes that her teammates and herself will qualify again this season.
  • Besides swimming, Katie participates in a variety of other activities. She was captain of the girl’s soccer team in the fall, earning her third soccer letter, and plans to earn her third letter for softball in the spring. Katie is the vice-president of Spanish Club, vice-president of the Envirothon Team, treasurer of the Interact Club, member of National Honor Society, and member of Student Council at Kenston and is also an active member of her church’s youth group. In the fall, Katie plans on attending The Ohio State University to major in Biomedical Science and to earn a minor in Spanish. She would like to thank her friends, family, teammates, and coaches for all of their amazing support and encouragement through out the past four years.
  • Katie would also like to bequeath her backstroke, which she received from Becky Baumgartner last season, to Jordan Alter. Katie wants to wish all of her teammates good luck at sectionals and in the following seasons!

Doug Chieffe

Doug Cheiffe

  • Junior | Senior
  • Doug began swimming last year in order to stay in shape for track during the winter months, but he has come to enjoy camaraderie and competitiveness of the swim team. He was also captain of the cross-country team where he lettered three out of four years. After swim team Doug will be running on the track team. He hopes to finish off his senior year with a successful track season.
  • Doug is the president of the Envirothon team and has earned student of the month for three consecutive years. He is also and avid downhill skier, mountain biker and fly fisherman. After participating in a research internship at the Cleveland Clinic, Doug developed an interest in biochemistry. Next year Doug plans to go college at either the University of Vermont, University of Connecticut or Middlebury College.

Ben Clemens

Ben Clemens

  • Freshman | Sophomore | Junior | Senior
  • Ben has been diving for four years and he is shocked that it has gone by so quickly! This last year he has had a lot of trouble due to an accident that has kept him from diving this year. He is coming back now and plans on beating his own record. He feels badly that he has not been able to participate with the team.
  • His senior year has been great so far. He has participated in cross-country and was in the school play as one of the leads. He enjoys theatre very much and even plans to minor in it in college. His favorite hobbies are playing guitar, lacrosse, politics, (Democrat-HA!), and playing with his dog, Captain. He has participated in two clubs while at KHS: Envirothon and PACK.
  • He hopes to attend either Miami of Ohio, Ohio University, or University of South Carolina with areas of interest in Biology/Zoology, Education, and International Business.

Devonshire

Matt Devonshire

  • Freshman | Sophomore | Junior | Senior
  • Matt is co-captain of the boy’s team. He has competed on the varsity swim team all four years of high school and will receive his third varsity letter. Matt earned the “Most Valuable Player” award for the boy’s team his junior year.
  • Matt was fortunate enough to coach the Bainbrook/Laurel Springs Swim Team this past summer. Matt is an On-Air personality and Promotions Director for Cleveland’s favorite station, WKHR, FM 91.5. He has also lettered in Band. Matt plans on attending the University of Dayton to study engineering. He will continue to be a righteous dude at college. Matt’s goal is to push his body to its physical limit! He plans on incorporating swimming into the rest of his life.
  • Matt would like to thank everyone who has helped him during his swimming career including Coach Kurt, Bridget, Rick Balcam, Dave Lange, Kyle Wamelink, Jeff, Charlie, and Billy German. He appreciates all of the support from his fans. Remember, you get what you put into it!

Kyle Ford

Kyle Ford

  • Freshman | Sophomore | Junior | Senior
  • This is Kyle’s fourth year of swimming and he will receive his third varsity letter. Over the past four years during the off-season, Kyle has trained with the Lake Erie Silver Dolphins, University Swim Club, and the BBLS Stingrays. Kyle’s two main goals for this year are to go to Districts in the 500 free and/or the 100 breast and earn a Team CVC award.
  • Outside of swimming, Kyle is involved in several other activities. He has been involved with Habitat for Humanity, including a weeklong service project in Biloxi, MS this past summer to rebuild hurricane damaged homes. He has been involved with Interact while at KHS and is a member of his church youth group. In the fall, Kyle plans to attend either The Ohio State University, Ohio Northern University, or the University of Akron to earn a major in Engineering and a minor in Business.
  • He would like to thank his family, friends, and coaches for all of their support and encouragement during the past four years. Kyle would like to bequeath his sense of humor and his slacking abilities to Sam Ziegler and wishes his team the best of luck in the future.

Kristen Mcknight

Kristen McKnight

  • Freshman | Sophomore | Junior | Senior
  • Kristen began to swim at age two. She joined the Lake in the Woods Swim Team when she was eight, has been a member of Vortex, LESD, USC, and KMS swim teams and plans to earn her 4th Varsity letter in swimming for Kenston High School this year. Currently Co-Captain, Kristen has represented Kenston at States her Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior years. She received the 2007 Coaches Award, CVC Honorable mention, WRC Second Team and the 2005 Up and Coming Award. She holds the school record for the 500 Free and with teammates, the 400 Free Relay.
  • Kristen also has Varsity letters in soccer and softball. She
    participates in many clubs, is a Spanish Club officer, member of the National Honor Society, and Vice President of the Youth Leadership Team at the United Methodist Church of Chagrin Falls.
  • In her free time, Kristen enjoys shopping, sleeping, socializing and hanging out with friends. She plans to major in Education, Biology or Psychology and continue her swimming career and will choose where by May 1st!
  • Kristen bequeaths her sprinting to Amanda Layman, her 500 free to Rachel Bullock and her catch phrase skills to her little fish, Erika Rothbrust and Brianna Neal.
  • Kristen has enjoyed swimming at Kenston and would like to thank her parents, her teammates, Coach Kurt, Coach Bridget and former coaches Rick Balcam and Mr. Lange for their dedication and encouragement. Best of luck underclassmen; just keep swimming….

Kyle Rura

Kyle Rura

  • Freshman | Sophomore | Junior | Senior
  • Kyle has been swimming forever. He has swam and lettered all fours years of high school swimming. Kyle’s proudest swimming achievement yet was going to districts in the 100 breaststroke. His free time activities include checking out girls, hanging out with his friends, and of course, swimming.
  • He is still looking at colleges but has narrowed it down to Ohio University, Ohio Northern, Ohio State University, and Youngstown State University. Kyle plans to major in either business or accounting. (So in the future if you need your taxes done you know who to call). Kyle would like to leave behind his breast-stroking skills to Ryan Astalos, and his ability to pick up girls to Craig Piunno. He’d like to thank his mom for always being there throughout every season of swimming; (I love you mom). As much as he loves swimming, he will not miss Saturday morning practices and lactates. Next year he’s sleeping in!

Becca Szanto

Becca Szanto

  • Freshman | Sophomore | Junior | Senior
  • Rebecca Szanto is in her senior year at Kenston High School. She has been involved in swimming since she was 4 years old. In the off season Becca competes on the Lake Erie Silver Dolphin Swim Team and also plays on the varsity lacrosse team. Becca has qualified for the State meet for the past 3 years in a row swimming on the 400 freestyle
    relay, and hopes to qualify again this year.
  • Becca is very involved in community service. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Political Action Club of Kenston, Interact, and is the secretary of Student
    Council. She plans to attend either Ohio University, Ohio
    Northern University, or Denison University to study
    psychology and continue her swimming career.
  • She would like to give a huge thanks to her family, friends, coaches, and teammates. It has been an unforgettable 4 years, thanks for all the memories! Becca would like to leave her 50 freestyle to her little fish Maggie Moore.
  • She would like to give an especially big thanks to her dad Stephen for always being her biggest fan and believing in her even when she didn’t believe in herself. Good Luck Bombers! Keep up the hard work!

Kathryn Thomas

Kathryn Thomas

  • Freshman | Sophomore | Junior | Senior
  • Kathryn has been swimming for the Kenston varsity swim team for four years. Kathryn qualified for districts her sophomore and junior years and earned scholar athlete her freshman year.
  • Kathryn has been a varsity member of cross country for four years. She is co-president of Envirothon, secretary of the math club, an officer of the National Honor Society, and a member of Interact and student council. She has applied to several universities in the United States, Canada and England. Kathryn plans on studying either mathematics and economics or medicine at university.

Cory Trimm

Cory Trimm

  • Senior
  • This is Cory’s first year on the swim team. He still isn’t really certain why he chose to go out for the swim team, but is happy that he did. Cory feels that his best moments on the swim team were finishing in 2nd place in the 50 free at Perry and crashing head on into the wall at the Rocky River meet.
  • Cory is also the president of the Bocce Ball Club and enjoys paintball and snowboarding. Cory has applied to Penn State, Virginia Tech, North Carolina State, and Purdue. He plans to major in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering with his ultimate goal of working for NASA.
