Janus, Kenston’s literary and art magazine, is looking for editors to help put together this year’s book. If you enjoy creative writing or art, this is a great opportunity to be part of an award winning publication and creative team. The first Janus meeting will be next Wednesday, October 7 at 2:30 in room A119. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Marchesi in room A119.

Do you love to debate? Interested in law? Need to build your resume? Mock Trial is back. Practices are once a week and there is one completion day (unless we advance!) This teaches useful skills like public speaking, writing organization and time management. Anyone interested can attend a meeting on Friday, October 9th after school in the AB Room. The case this year – Defense motion to withdraw a guilty plea for the prosecutor to disclose evidence.

Attention Students: There is a new procedure for lunches. Each day you will need to complete the “Free Lunch Form” in your student portal if you are obtaining a lunch. You will need to do this daily if you need lunch from the cafeteria.

A few quick reminders:

● Virtual Conferences will take place on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A document will be posted on the website that includes the link for the Zoom meeting for all of our teachers. This document will be posted on October 7, 2020.
● Take a picture of your school ID! These cannot be replaced and requesting a duplicate will incur additional fees!
● The cost of a replacement Desk Shield is $20 if you lose or damage yours. Remember, Desk Shields are a mandatory requirement.
● Senior Cap & Gown Orders – Friday, October 2nd, during all lunch blocks.
● Sophomore Ring & Jewelry Orders – Friday, Oct. 2 during lunch blocks.
(Juniors are able to order jewelry too! Just see the Josten’s Rep!)
● Yearbook orders are $55 if ordered by Friday, October 2nd. After that, the price increases, so turn those orders in early!
● Vision Screening: Tuesday, October 6 for Freshman and all new students and Thursday, October 8 for Juniors! A schedule will be announced early next week.

Kenston Academy is open for business! Stop in The Hub every Monday through Thursday after school from 2:20 to 3:20 to meet with a tutor or just use the space to work. All topics will be covered and no appointment is necessary. Be sure to take advantage of this great resource!

SENIOR PORTRAITS: Senior portrait specifications for other Photographers: Size—no less than 300 dpi. Pose—only traditional full color portrait, head and shoulders only. Background—must be on the spectrum from cobalt to navy blue (no light blue). No hats, props, hands or inappropriate clothing. Submit your photograph electronically by email attachment to: justin.fodor@kenstonapps.org or on a CD. Under no circumstances will a senior portrait be scanned from a print. GUIDANCE NEWS:

Wednesday, October 14, 2020 is our College & Career Readiness Day. The school day is dedicated to PSAT & SAT Testing and/or virtual College Visitation and Job Shadowing (for 11th & 12th graders not signed up to test. All 9th & 10th grade students will report to school, as normal, to participate in PSAT Testing.

Attention Juniors – LEAF Resource Center is offering an Information Session on Wednesday, October 14 @ 6:30 p.m. titled Let the College Research Begin. Learn how to investigate colleges using internet tools. Discover online sites to assist in the college search process based on location, size, major, and more. Sessions are free, but reservations are required for Google Meet. Register at leaf-ohio.org/resource-center-sessions/ or call the LEAF Office at 440-525-7095.

Attention Seniors: College visitations will be held virtually this year. Students must register at least 24 hours in advance. No registration will be accepted on the day of the college visit. The following schools are scheduled:

KHS TESTING
● PSAT Test (11th grade only) – Wednesday, October 14, 2020 (Registration deadline 9/8/20)
● SAT Test (12th grade only) – Wednesday, October 14, 2020 (Registration deadline 9/8/20)
● SAT Test (all 10th grade) – March, 2021
● AP Testing – May 3-14, 2021

College Financial Aid – Lake/Geauga Educational Assistance Foundation (LEAF) is a non-profit organization that provides guidance on college financial aid. Kenston’s LEAF advisor is Mrs. Renee Morgan and is available for virtual student/family meetings regarding the FAFSA, the CSS profile, scholarships, loans and college application and funding information. Mrs. Morgan will host a virtual presentation on financial aid this month for all junior and senior families. Topics will include how your current financial situation can affect selecting a college and a timeline of the financial aid process. A link to the video will be sent in the near future. To arrange an individual appointment during the day or in the evening, please contact Mrs. Morgan directly at rmorgan@leaf-ohio.org. ATHLETIC NEWS:

Due to Covid and under an agreement between Kenston and other schools in the Western Reserve Conference, two tickets for each football, soccer and volleyball athlete, cheerleader, dance team and band member will be sold for home games. Two tickets per player also will be sold for away conference games.

Please stop by the Main Office if you have lost something or if you have found something that someone has lost. Items not claimed in a few days will be placed in the Lost & Found bin in the Cafeteria.
