This week is Digital Citizenship Week. What is Digital Citizenship? Good digital citizenship is focused on using responsible, respectful, and ethical behavior when using technology!
● Tip #1: NEVER reveal personal information such as full name, home address or phone number on-line!
● Tip #2: ALWAYS keep passwords private and difficult for others to guess!
● Tip #3: Follow the appropriate age limit for social networking sites, and never upload anything you wouldn’t want your parents, teachers or friends to see.
● Tip #4: Think carefully before revealing your opinions, geolocation, clubs/teams, photos/videos, or vacation plans.
Do you have an experience to share? Do you want to use your voice as a means to make change in the world? Consider submitting to the Stop the Hate essay contest and song contest. Each year students from all over north-east Ohio write about ways to bring about change by Stopping Hate. If you would like to learn more please meet in A117 after school on Thursday 10/22. If you cannot make the meeting please see Mrs. Brust in A117 any day after school.
Want to get involved and help be an agent for change? Join Interact and volunteer. There will be an Interact meeting in A117 on Monday, October 26th. See Mrs. Brust for details.

Is open for business! Stop in The Hub every Monday through Thursday after school from 2:20 to 3:20 to meet with a tutor or just use the space to work. All topics will be covered and no appointment is necessary. Be sure to take advantage of this great resource!
Senior portrait specifications for other Photographers: Size—no less than 300 dpi. Pose—only traditional full color portrait, head and shoulders only. Background—must be on the spectrum from cobalt to navy blue (no light blue). No hats, props, hands or inappropriate clothing. Submit your photograph electronically by email attachment to: email@example.com or on a CD. Under no circumstances will a senior portrait be scanned from a print. ● There is a scholarship available in Guidance for seniors who plan to major in natural or environmental sciences in college. Details for the Protect Geauga Parks Bob McCullough Memorial Conservation Scholarship are available in Guidance. The deadline to apply is 6:00 PM on Friday, October 23, 2020
● VOICE OF DEMOCRACY ESSAY CONTEST SCHOLARSHIP For GRADES 9-12.
Theme is “Is This the Country the Founders Envisioned?” Complete details and fillable application at www.vfwauxiliary.org/scholarships. Top prize is a $30,000 scholarship to an American university. Must be returned to Chardon VFW before October 31, 2020.
● YOUNG AMERICAN CREATIVE PATRIOTIC ART CONTEST SCHOLARSHIP For GRADES 9-12.
Win a top prize of $31,500 scholarship. Rules, eligibility and application are in Guidance or download at https://www.vfw.org/community/youth-and-education/youth-scholarships. Must be returned to Chardon VFW before March 31, 2021.
Attention Seniors: College visitations will be held virtually this year. Students must register at least 24 hours in advance. No registration will be accepted on the day of the college visit. The following schools are scheduled:

College Financial Aid – Lake/Geauga Educational Assistance Foundation (LEAF) is a non-profit organization that provides guidance on college financial aid. Kenston’s LEAF advisor is Mrs. Renee Morgan and is available for virtual student/family meetings regarding the FAFSA, the CSS profile, scholarships, loans and college application and funding information. Mrs. Morgan will host a virtual presentation on financial aid this month for all junior and senior families. Topics will include how your current financial situation can affect selecting a college and a timeline of the financial aid process. A link to the video will be sent in the near future. To arrange an individual appointment during the day or in the evening, please contact Mrs. Morgan directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
LEAF’s Virtual Information Sessions for the year have been posted on the Guidance webpage – all Kenston families are welcome to register.
Attention Seniors – LEAF Resource Center is offering an Information Session on Wednesday, November 4 @ 6:30 p.m. titled Scholarships 101. How do I find money for college? Learn about how to research scholarships at universities, national databases, and at the local level. Get helpful hints on scholarship application processes. Sessions are free, but reservations are required for Google Meet. Register at leaf-ohio.org/resource-center-sessions/ or call the LEAF Office at 440-525-7095.
Anyone interested in playing Girls Basketball, tryouts will be this Friday, October 23
from 2:30-5pm in the Main Gym. You can see Coach Misenko in A206 if there are any questions.
Congratulations to the Boy’s Soccer Team for taking the WRC by storm, going undefeated for this season! They will face Glen Oak, at home, 7:00 this Saturday for a second round playoff game!!

Due to Covid and under an agreement between Kenston and other schools in the Western Reserve Conference, two tickets for each football, soccer and volleyball athlete, cheerleader, dance team and band member will be sold for home games. Two tickets per player also will be sold for away conference games.
