The girls cross country team won their first ever District Championship on October 24th. The Boys team also did extremely well and narrowly lost to St. Ignatius. Senior Denis Princic won the race in a literal photo-finish with a time of 16:00.0. He was followed by senior Garrett McConnell finished seventh in 16:28.05, senior Nathan Bertman took eighth in 16:28.62, senior Jack Turk was 13th in 16:32.23 and senior Tyler McMahan finished 24th in 16:45.70, while senior Owen Orlowski was 27th in 16:48.36 and junior Braden Hunt finished 35th in 16:59.34. The boys’ scored 53 points and lost to St. Ignatius who had 47 points. The gap between the first five Kenston runners was only 47.5 seconds. It was a close race and the bombers were able to secure a spot for the Regional meet on October 31st. The boys hope to win the regional title for the second year in a row. The Kenston girls had another amazing race and won their first district title in school history. Sophomore Cece Paglia finished fifth with a time of 18:53.91, sophomore Paige Masson finished seventh in 19:12.37, senior Ellie Pleune took 12th in 19:18.48, freshman Emerson Greene was 13th in 19:19.88 and junior Jenny Kapcio finished 27th in 20:01.90, while junior Jocelyn Van Skyhock was 33rd in 20:18.43 and junior Katie Klotz finished 39th in 20:33.64. The girls scored 64 points and were able to beat the Mentor girls who scored 73 points. Like the boys, girls hope to win the regional title. If the girls get in the top 8 it will be the first time they have ever qualified for states as a team. Both teams hope to win the state championship on November 7th.
