Boys and Girls XC teams place 5th at states

By Robert Phillips

Both the Girls and Boys Cross country teams had amazing performances at the OHSAA Division I meet to conclude their seasons. The teams both placed fifth in the state. It was the highest either team has finished in the Division 1 competition. The boys had a very impressive race, they finished 5th out of 20 teams. Senior Nate Burtman led the team, finishing in 20th place in the team race with a time of 16:12.7. He was followed by senior Denis Princic, who took 26th in the team race with a time of 16:18.8. Behind Dennis, senior Jack Turk finished with a time of 16:33 and placed 33th, junior Braden Hunt ran a 16:40.2 finishing in 44th, senior Garrett McConnell finished 50th in 16:44.5, senior Tyler McMahan finished in 16:54.8, and senior Owen Orlowski ran with a time of 17:27. These times helped secure the Bombers a score of 175 points and a fifth place finish behind champion Lakota West, St. Xavier, Beavercreek, and St. Ignatius. This once again proved the polls wrong. Equally impressive, the girls had an amazing race after qualifying for Division I states for the first time in school history. The field was tough and consisted of 176 runners and 20 teams. Sophomore Cece Paglia led the Kenston girls and finished 13th overall with a time of 18:32. This time qualified her as an all-Ohio runner and set a new school record. She was followed by sophomore Paige Masson who finished 28th in the team race with a time of 19:13.8, freshman Emerson Greene finished 33rd in the team race with a time of 19:20.1, senior Pleune was 37th in 19:24.5, junior Jenny Kapcio was 73rd in 20:10.3, junior Katie Klotz, finished in 20:58.0, and Jocelyn Van Skyhock, finished in 21:43.1. These times allowed the Bombers to score 180 points and finish in fifth place.
