Earlier this week, the Western Reserve Conference members determined that we will be suspending in-conference play in all winter sports until January 15. As is well established, the status of our Kenston team activities, including practice and competition, is based on our ability to do so safely within the protocols we have developed with authorization from and in tandem with the Geauga County Public Health Department.
Though this status may change at any given time, it is our current intention to continue to compete in non-conference competition in all winter sports with some limitations. Based on the recommendation from the Governor’s office to mitigate potential exposure to COVID-19, we will not be permitting spectators at any of our home events until at least January 15. This is being done to do our part in helping stop the spread of the virus but still provide valuable opportunities to our student-athletes to remain active.
Many of our opponents have suspended play for several weeks or may not be permitting spectators either, but we will continue to update our teams on schedule changes and share information about opportunities to attend away contests if possible.
Logistics particular to some sports will prevent us from doing so, but we will do our best to provide remote viewing opportunities for our home events in the following fashion:
Basketball and Wrestling will be broadcast via Boxcast and streamed here: https://boxcast.tv/channel/obzoptw1ecba3sj72col
Gymnastics events will be live streamed on Twitter from Coach Smith’s account @ASmithKHS
Hockey events will be streamed at www.LiveBarn.com. A promotional code will be shared with Kenston hockey families to gain discounted access, but there is an associated fee for a subscription.
We are hopeful that these measures will contribute to the communal attempts to secure the continuation of winter sports in our area and throughout the state. We thank our community for your continued support of Bomber Athletics and your dedication to assisting in this effort.
