The commencement ceremony for Kenston High School is slated to take place on May 25 at 6 p.m. at Bomber Stadium. The ceremony is usually held at Parkside Church in Bainbridge, but this year the graduation will be outdoors and socially distanced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, school officials said.

There are also two scheduled rain dates, May 27 and May 29. Bomber Stadium has a capacity of 1,200 people. Students will be on the field and families will be on the home stands, both with mask requirements and social distancing guidelines in place.

“We’re looking forward to celebrating our graduates,” said Katy McGrath, community relations director for the Kenston Local School District.

Kenston did not hire an event planning company to coordinate graduation, officials said, because the school staff is planning it themselves. The ceremony will be livestreamed through BoxCast. Kenston this year has 248 graduates, and each one will receive four tickets for guests. Digital tickets will be scanned at the gate.

Superintendent Nancy Santilli and Kenston High School Principal Tom Gabram will speak at the ceremony, in addition to several students who have not yet been chosen. Last year during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, graduates were given specific time slots to walk across the stage and a virtual ceremony was presented at the Mayfield Road Drive-In Theatre in Chardon.
