Krampus is a German Folklore character that is associated with Christmas. He accompanies St. Nicholas on Christmas Eve night while he delivers presents to the well behaved children. But Krampus is not a jolly figure for the good children. He is a terrifying demonic figure that punishes the bad children. It is said that he will kidnap a child’s family as punishment and terrorize the child.
Krampus originates from what is now southern Germany in the Middle Ages. He is just one of many dark characters from this time. But, he probably stands out as one of the most terrorizing due to his involvement of a happy holiday like Christmas. Today, Krampus is often represented at holiday parades in and around Germany and Austria.
The reason I wrote this article is to give backdrop to the new movie which is titled Krampus. It is currently out in theaters. Cam Zakrajsek said, “The movie was exceptional, even for a staunch critic like myself. I sincerely recommend this magnificent piece of art to all.” The movie is based in present time. It is said to be terrifying but also mixes elements of humor. It puts a twist on an ancient tale. I think everyone should go see this movie for the holidays.
