Cat Poems

The Cats Will Know by Cesare Pavese
Rain will fall again
on your smooth pavement,
a light rain like
a breath or a step.
The breeze and the dawn
will flourish again
when you return,
as if beneath your step.
Between flowers and sills
the cats will know.

There will be other days,
there will be other voices.
You will smile alone.
The cats will know.
You will hear words
old and spent and useless
like costumes left over
from yesterday’s parties.

You too will make gestures.
You’ll answer with words—
face of springtime,
you too will make gestures.

The cats will know,
face of springtime;
and the light rain
and the hyacinth dawn
that wrench the heart of him
who hopes no more for you—
they are the sad smile
you smile by yourself.

There will be other days,
other voices and renewals.
Face of springtime,
we will suffer at daybreak.

This poem is raw and has a lot of sentimental value to many cat lovers out there. Many people like this poem because it contains words that flow smoothly together and brings the whole picture into clear view. Altogether, the poem is one of my personal favorites and is crafted very well for a cat poem.

Tame Cat by Ezra Pound
It rests me to be among beautiful women
Why should one always lie about such matters?
I repeat:
It rests me to converse with beautiful women
Even though we talk nothing but nonsense,

The purring of the invisible antennae
Is both stimulating and delightful.

This poem above is written well and the stanzas contain a lot of meaning, they relate to me on a personal level and give a greater sense of meaning in life. Prior to me finding cat poems, I used to read dog poems but that just didn’t do it for me, I relate to cat poems more because cats are more advanced. Overall, the poem above is a short, but solid piece of writing that has tons of value to cat poem people.
