Kenston records three top-six finishes to cap memorable state gymnastics weekend
The metrics are clear: Kenston has completed its most successful weekend in school history at the state gymnastics meet.
One day after taking a solid second to Ohio juggernaut Brecksville-Broadview Heights during the team competition at Hilliard Bradley, the Bombers had three top-six finishes to make the podium and three sevenths during the individual competition March 6.
Presley Gabram took fourth on vault, seventh on floor and bars and tied for fourth all-around, and Mary Cowan placed sixth on vault.
Coming into 2021, the Bombers had three top-six finishes in individual events at state in gymnastics, among 119 by gymnasts from News-Herald coverage area schools all-time: Cowan’s thirds in bars and beam last season, and a sixth by Samantha Nero on beam in 2015.
Consider that top-six pace surpassed as a program with a commendable trajectory amid a pandemic-altered winter.
“I think we have been working hard in the gym and keeping a positive mindset,” Kenston coach Nicole Martorello said. “We’ve focused on what we can control and our routines and how we can make them better. We have a really good group of girls that are supportive of one another, and they help each other out a lot. They’ve become almost like a family. I think that really helps takes us to the next level. And we peaked at the right time, which was great.”
Gabram scored a 9.5 on vault and 9.425 on floor for her individual event podium performances, along with a 37.3 all-around.
